MedThink Communications Account Director Among First to Receive CMPP Certification in Medical Publications Planning and Development

29th April, 2009

Susan Brady of MedThink Communications is among the first medical publication professionals in the nation to become certified by the International Society for Medical Publication Professionals, a nonprofit organization that provides advocacy and education for medical publication professionals. With this certification, Brady has demonstrated in-depth knowledge and expertise on best practices and regulatory guidelines within the medical publication industry.

An account director at MedThink, Brady will use her knowledge as a Certified Medical Publication Professional to shepherd the agency's pharmaceutical clients through the increasingly complex publications planning and development process. In addition to didactic knowledge, the certification is designed to promote integrity, excellence and an open exchange of ideas within the medical publications field.

"New regulations designed to enhance transparency and accelerate the dissemination of clinical data have imposed significant challenges to our pharmaceutical clients," said Brady. "I sought certification to assist our clients in developing publication plans that support their products while adhering to newly adopted industry practices and legislative regulations."

Among the newly revised and more stringent regulations, authors of peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts must disclose any assistance provided to them by medical writers in order to increase transparency. The issue of ghostwriting has received considerable scrutiny, and new regulations dictate how the process of manuscript development and submission should be handled.

Credentialing as a CMPP requires knowledge of guidelines and regulatory requirements developed by agencies or associations including ISMPP, ICMJE, AMWA, EMWA and CONSORT. Candidates meet a minimum set of educational and experience criteria and pass a comprehensive 3-hour exam at an approved testing center.

Brady came to MedThink in 2007 as an account supervisor and was promoted to account director in 2008. Brady earned a Bachelor of Science in biology from Duke University.
